A plant family of the order MALPIGHIALES, superorder ROSANAE, class MAGNOLIOPSIDA. The leaves are alternate and simple, and staminate (male) flowers consist of one to several stamens; pistillate (female) flowers consist of a single-chambered ovary with several ovules that produce silky seeds.
