When it is present, the paired series of extrascapular bones may include one pair or two pairs or two pairs plus a median one. The most lateral is named lateral extrascapula and is the bone where the intersection of the otic, postotic and extrascapular or supratemporal canals occur. The medial and median extrascapulars carry the extrascapular or supratemporal canal.
